Chinese Students Visit Singapore's Schools — and Meet an MIT Doctor

The head of Global International Education recently led a group of students from China on a visit to Singapore to experience its education environment first-hand, and to meet a doctor from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) — giving the children a more concrete reference point for their future studies.

One visit, so a child can see what studying abroad is really like

“Should our child study abroad — and what would it actually be like?” It is the question many Chinese parents come back to again and again. Rather than reading brochures, we believe children should see it for themselves. 1. A visit in person The head of Global International Education recently led a group of students from China to Singapore, visiting the campus and teaching facilities of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to feel the classroom atmosphere and the pace of learning up close. For many of the children, it was the first time they saw what studying abroad really means. 2. Meeting an MIT doctor A highlight of the trip was the conversation with a doctor from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The two sides talked about study directions, choosing a major and life overseas, and the students asked their own questions directly. 3. The three questions parents ask most First, when is the right time to go. Adaptability, language foundation and emotional readiness differ by age — the answer depends on the individual child, not on going as early as possible. Second, how to prepare language and life skills in advance. Language is not only a test score; it is whether a child can make friends and live independently. Third, how to plan the pathway. From subject choices to application timelines, preparation usually starts years ahead — the earlier the direction is clear, the smoother the road. 4. A closing note One visit will not decide a child’s future, but it can make that future more concrete — knowing who you want to become often matters more than knowing what score you need. Turning “studying abroad” from a leaflet into something a child has seen and felt for themselves: that is why Global International Education organises visits like this. If you would like your child to have the same experience, please get in touch with our advisers.
