NUS and NTU Joint Third in Asia

How the Asia table differs

QS published its Asia University Rankings 2026 on Tuesday 4 November. 1. Singapore's two universities joint third. NUS and NTU are joint third, with NTU up one place. The University of Hong Kong overtook Peking University to take first. 2. Other local institutions. Singapore Management University rose 18 places to 122nd; the Singapore University of Technology and Design fell 16 places to 169th; and the Singapore University of Social Sciences entered at 627th. 3. A record field. This year's table assessed 1,529 institutions across 25 countries and territories, 557 of them first-time entrants — including 261 added from mainland China and 137 from India. 4. Different indicators, different results. The Asia table uses 11 indicators tailored to the region — academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per paper, international faculty and international students among them — so it does not track the global QS ranking. 5. How to read such tables. For families, the Asia table is useful for comparison within the region: if the plan is to work in Asia or use it as a stepping stone, regional reputation is the more direct signal; for UK/US progression or global employment, the world table is more relevant. One caveat: these tables reflect an institution's overall reputation and research performance, not the teaching quality of a particular programme. Decisions should still weigh your child's academic level, intended field, budget and graduate outcomes.
