Growing Together in Christ: Faith, Relationships and AI with Baptist Pastors

A time of learning with Baptist pastors about growing in Christ, building genuine relationships, supporting one another and using artificial intelligence wisely.

Starting with Relationships and Keeping Technology in Service to People

Learning and sharing with a group of Baptist pastors reminded me that growth is more than gaining knowledge. It is the continuing renewal of our lives in Christ, expressed through genuine relationships in which we support and build up one another.

Relationships Need Time and Mutual Support

Our discussion touched on the relationship layers represented by Dunbar’s numbers: from a core support circle to close friends, teams and a broader community of belonging. Because time and energy are limited, we cannot sustain the same depth with everyone. We therefore need to treasure the people around us, listen attentively, communicate honestly and grow together in trust. A church is not merely a meeting place; it is a spiritual family where people find care, support and belonging.

Let AI Remain a Tool for Serving People

We also explored how artificial intelligence can be used effectively. AI can help pastors organise information, prepare material, summarise meetings and improve routine communication. Yet it cannot replace prayer, biblical truth, spiritual discernment or genuine human presence. The goal is not for technology to replace people, but for it to take on repetitive work so that more time can be given to caring for lives, serving communities and deepening relationships.

About the Singapore Baptist Convention and the Baptist Tradition

The Singapore Baptist Convention was established on 28 December 1974 as a platform for Baptist churches in Singapore to connect and cooperate. According to the Convention’s website, Baptist work in Singapore officially began in 1937. By 1970, the local Baptist family had grown from two churches to eleven churches and one chapel. The Convention encourages churches to support one another in gospel mission, leadership development, shared resources and church growth while respecting the autonomy of each local church.

Baptists belong to the Protestant Christian tradition. They emphasise the supreme authority of Scripture in faith and church practice, personal faith in Christ, believers’ baptism, the priesthood of all believers and the autonomy of the local church. Although local congregations govern themselves, they cooperate through conventions in pursuit of a shared mission.

Whether in faith, ministry or the use of technology, what matters most is the growth of life. May we be rooted in Christ, build trust through communication and move forward by supporting one another.
